Discover the beauty of Avon. If there is a commercial center to Hatteras Island it’s Avon. Located nine miles south of Salvo, the village has a shopping plaza that includes a supermarket and hardware store as well as a number of locally owned restaurants and craft stores.

In operation since 1963, the Avon Pier is one of the best fishing piers along the Outer Banks. A wooden pier, it’s 665’ long so it gets out past the surf zone where some of the bigger fish are waiting to take some bait. It’s especially well-known for red drum landings, but just about everything imaginable has been caught off the pier.
